Substance Misuse and Mental Health
MSHR is involved in a small but developing program of research investigating
the health impact of petrol sniffing, kava, cannabis and multi-substance abuse
in remote Indigenous communities in the Northern Territory.
We are also concerned with cognitive research in Aboriginal populations, focusing
on the development of culturally acceptable tools to test brain function.
In the coming year, work will be conducted into the feasibility of establishing
a collaborative “centre of excellence” for the study of the addictions
and addictive behaviour in tropical Australia and Asian region.
